Bull. Ass. Fr. Lichénologie, 47, 1: 30, 2022. Basionym: Callopisma aurantiacum var. placidium A. Massal. - Symmicta Lich. : 32, 1855
Synonyms:
Distribution: N - Ven.
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, starting the life-cycle on the thalli of Pyrenodesmia chalybaea, finely areolate, ochraceous yellow to brownish orange, epruinose, the areoles angular, smooth, flat. Apothecia frequent, zeorine, 0.5-2 mm across, not immersed in the thallus, with an orange disc and a usually paler, persistent margin. Epithecium orange, granular K+ red; hymenium colourless; paraphyses sparingly branched in upper part, swollen at apex; hypothecium colourless. hyaline, very variable, Ascospores 2-celled, polarilocular, hyaline, ellipsoid to broadly ellipsoid, 9-13 x 5-10 μm, the equatorial thickening (“septum”) 3-5 μm (1/4-1/2 of spore length). Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus and apothecia K+ red, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: thallus and apothecia with parietin (major), fallacinal, emodin, teloschistin and parietinic acid (minor), corresponding with chemosyndrome A of Søchting (1997). Note: a member of a poorly understood group, described from the surroundings of Verona and probably much more widespread. According to Roux & Coll. (2014) it starts the life-cycle on the thalli of Pyrenodesmia chalybaea and is quite common in southern France.
