Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, 2-3(-5) mm thick, continuous to finely rimose, in central parts, areolate in marginal parts, whitish, the surface with larger and more flattened, 1-2 mm wide, sorediate warts and smaller, 0.4-0.6 mm wide, basally constricted, hemispherical, esorediate warts, the marginal areoles radially elongate. Apothecia unknown. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: medulla and soralia K+ pale yellow-brown, C-, KC+ pale yellow, P+ orange-red, I-. Chemistry: medulla and soralia with protocetraric and succinprotocetraric acids.Note: a very poorly known species found on calciferous rocks, so far only recorded from the Eastern Alps (Austria), but perhaps more widespread and overlooked, being always sterile. To be looked for in Italy.
