Description: Thallus inapparent, not lichenized, developing on the thalli of saxicolous leprose lichens. Apothecia arthonioid, black, at first partially immersed in the host thallus, then sessile, rounded, up to 0.2 mm across, flat to finally convex, with a rough surface, without an evident proper margin. Proper exciple poorly developed, formed by strongly carbonized hyphae; epithecium strongly carbonized with dark brown pigments, K+ olive-black, 5-15 μm high; hymenium colourless to pale yellow-brown, sometimes with orange-brown granules, 20-30 μm high, I+ wine red, K/I+ pale blue; paraphysoids scanty and inconspicuous, the cells 3-4 x 0.5-1 μm; hypothecium brown, 20-30 μm high. Asci 8-spored, broadly clavate, I-, K/I+, with an inconspicuous, slightly elongated ring in the tholus, 25-32 x 11-15 μm. Ascospores 1-septate, not or only slightly constricted at septum, hyaline, cylindrical-obovoid, 7-10 x 3-4 μm, with a gelatinous sheath which is most evident in K. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: all negative in thallus. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: a lichenicolous fungus growing on Lepraria-species on siliceous rocks; probably more widespread, but largely overlooked. To be looked for in Italy.
