Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, pale grey, pale grey-white to pale grey-green when moist, pale grey brown when dry, slightly verrucose, with discrete, scattered, punctiform, at first slightly excavate then flat, 0.2-0.5(-0.7) mm wide, pink-grey soralia (turning whitish in the herbarium). Apothecia and pycnidia unknown. Photobiont trentepohlioid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P+ orange, UV-. Chemistry: fumarprotocetraric acid, ± protocetraric acid, plus an unidentified substance. Note: a mainly western species with tropical-subtropical affinities, found on the bark of old, mainly deciduous trees (Fagus, Quercus) in undisturbed, humid forests, also reported from a few stations in the Alps, outside Italian territory. To be looked for in Italy.
