Description: Thallus poorly evident, not lichenized, sometimes staining the substrate silvery white. Apothecia short-stalked, pin-like, 0.2-0.3(-0.4) mm high, the stalk white to pale brown, consisting of irregularly interwoven, 2-3 µm thick, pale brown to colourless hyphae, with a gelatinous coat. Capitulum lenticular to subglobose, 0.03-0.2 mm across, shiny black, often with a granular surface. Exciple pale brown, formed as a continuation of the outer layers of the stalk, comprising three or four periclinally arranged 5-6 µm thick hyphae which are darker than those of the stalk; mazaedium absent; epithecium brown; hypothecium dark green to olivaceous brown, 60-75 μm high. Asci cylindrical, formed singly, with a single functional layer, strongly and uniformly thickened at apex, with uniseriately arranged ascospores, persisting until the spores are mature. Ascospores 1-celled, greenish brown when young, then pale brown, ellipsoid, 5-9 x 2-4 µm, the wall smooth to minutely verrucose. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: ascocarps K-, C-, KC-, P-; pigmented parts of apothecia N- or N+ reddish. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: a non-ichenized saprobe living on cones of Pinus in the Mediterranean belt, apparently widespread in Spain (see Muñiz & Hladun 2007b). To be looked for in Mediterranean Italy.
