Description: Thallus crustose, inconspicuous, doubtfully lichenized. Perithecia black, shiny, smooth, numerous, scattered singly, circular to slightly ellipsoid, c. 0.15-0.2 mm across, not surrounded by a basal fringe, at first immersed, then hemispherical to applanate, c. 70 µm high, the ostiole located centrally in a small depression. Involucrellum dark brown or black in places, c. 10-15 µm thick, not extending into a basal fringe, consisting of dark brown, smooth, thin-walled, c. 3 µm thick hyphae intermixed with bark material, forming a clypeate pseudoparenchymatous tissue; exciple colourless to pale brown, intergrading with the involucrellum, of colourless, thin-walled, isodiametric cells; pseudoparaphyses, c. 1.5-2 µm thick; hymenial gel I+ pale blue. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, short-stalked, with two functional layers, the inner wall apex truncate and slightly pierced by a pore. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, fusiform-arcuate, 30-40(-47) x 2-2.5 µm, not constricted at septum and attenuated at apices. Photobiont probably absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a species described from Germany and also known from Spain and Slowakia, mostly growing on acid bark (Larix, Betula). To be looked for in Italy.
