Description: Thallus inapparent, probably not lichenized. Perithecia, 0.2-0.4 mm in diam., circular or broadly ellipsoid in outline, flattened at top, dark green, often with a thin whitish border. Involucrellum bright green to dark green (in water mounts), K-, N+ red, composed of dark hyphae mixed with bark cells; exciple greenish, poorly developed; hamathecium of up to 1 µm thick, simple or sparingly branched and anastomosing paraphyses, the hymenial gel I-. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, with a more or less truncate apex, K/I-, the apex usually thickened internally but without an ocular chamber, 80-95 x 17-20 µm. Ascospores muriform, with 7-10 transverse septa and all but the lowest 1-2(-4) cells with 1-3 longitudinal septa, hyaline, clavate with attenuated lower part, 28-31(-38) x 7-9(-10) µm, without a gelatinous perispore. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a non-lichenized, easily ovrlooked saprophytic fungus usually collected by lichenologist, growing on the smooth bark of coniferous and deciduous trees. To be looked for in Italy.
