Description: Thallus not apparent, the apothecia developing on the thallus of the host lichens. Apothecia at first round or short-ellipsoid, then elongate, 0.2-0.6(-0.8) x (0.1-)0.15-0.2 mm, often forming loose, rounded to irregular, 0.4-1.2 mm to 1.8-1.4 mm wide clusters of 2-20, the individual ones black, epruinose, simple or shortly 1-2-furcate, with a slit-like disc (but often slightly enlarged in the middle) and a rather thick, entire proper margin. Proper exciple 36-48 μm wide laterally, dark brown to black brown, K- or K+ reddish; epithecium well developed, brownish, 19-24 μm high, I+ blue; hymenium colourless, 50-62 μm high, I+ red to reddish brown, K/I+ blue; paraphyses sparingly branched, 1.4-2 μm thick (in K), the apical cells slightly swollen, to c. 3.5 μm wide, covered with abundant minute brown granules; subhymenium pale brown, 12-28 μm high, K−. Asci (4-)6(-8)-spored, broadly clavate, fissitunicate, with a K/I+ blue ring around the top of the ocular chamber, 48-61 x 16-17 μm. Ascospores 3-septate, the upper cells often slightly larger than the lower cells, long remaining hyaline and measuring (15-)16-19 x (4.7-)5-6 μm, the overmature ones turning brown, to 21 x 7 μm, usually with a distinct, 1–2 μm thick gelatinous sheath, the surface of old spores minutely warted, but without brown granules in the perispore. Pycnidia c. 80 μm across, immersed in the host thallus, with a dark brown wall, the conidiogenous cells elongate-ampulliform, 8-12 x c. 2 μm. Conidia simple, bacilliform to narrowly ellipsoid, hyaline, 4.3-4.8 x c. 1 μm. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
