Description: Thallus inapparent, not lichenized, the hyphae developing inside the thalli or the apothecia of epiphytic species of the Lecanora subfusca-group. Apothecia black, epruinose, mostly round, rarely ellipsoid, usually clustered in groups of 4 or more, occasionally scattered, sometimes growing on gall-like swellings of the host thallus, with a flat disc and regular, often furrowed, raised proper margin. Proper exciple black, extending below the hymenium; epithecium brownish; hymenium colourless, I+ blue; paraphyses branched and anastomosing. Asci 8-spored, clavate, fissitunicate, the inner endoascus amyloid in upper part, with an amyloid ring-structure and ocular chamber. Ascospores (1-)3-septate, at first hyaline but soon turning brown, 15-23 x 5-8(-9) µm, the young ones surrounded by a gelatinous perispore, the overmature ones with a finely verruculose wall. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.

Note: a rare, but widespread lichenicolouos fungus growing on the thalli and apothecia of species of the Lecanora subfusca-group, reported from several European countries, Macaronesia and North America. To be looked for in Italy.
