Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, areolate, yellow-green, forming up to 2(-3) cm wide patches delimited by a dark prothallus, the areoles 0.2-0.3 mm wide, contiguous or dispersed on a black hypothallus, the central ones round to angular, sslightly convex, bearing 0.2-0.5 mm wide and up to 0.8 mm tall isidioid papillae which are apically decorticated and turn blackish when old, the marginal areoles weakly elongated and radiating. Medulla white, I+ blue. Apothecia unknown. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: medulla K+ yellow, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: cortex with rhizocarpic acid; medulla with unknown substances.Note: on siliceous rocks in wind-exposed sites; so far only known from the high alpine belt in Switzerland (Silvretta Range). To be looked for in the Italian Alps.
