Description: Thallus inapparent, endocapylic, not lichenized, growing inside the thalli of epilithic species of the Lecanora subfusca-group, sometimes inducing gall-like deformations on the host thalli. Apothecia lecideine, black, round, dispersed to crowded, semi-immersed to sessile, not constricted at base, 0.2-0.4(-0.6) mm across, with a flat to convex, epruinose disc and a thin, soon excluded proper margin. Proper exciple to 35-70 µm thick dark grey-green to violet-brown in outer part, the pigmented zone c. 8-10 µm wide, pale violet to violet-brown in inner part; epithecium violet to violet-black, 7-15 µm high; hymenium violet, 40-70 µm high, I-; paraphyses branched, mostly not anastomosing, up to 4 µm thick at mod-level (the lumina 1-2 µm)), the apical cells 4-6 µm wide (the lumina 1-2.5 µm) with a diffuse and cap-like pigment in the wall; hypothecium pale yellowish-brown to brown, up to 150 µm high, the subhymenial layer violet to violet-brown, up to 10 µm high. Asci 8-spored, , clavate to cylindrical-clavate, the apical dome K/I+ dark blue with a pale, conical-pointed apical cushion (axial mass), the wall I-, but the thin outer gel I+ blue, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 7-11 x 4.5-6 µm. Pycnidia immersed in the thallus of the host lichen, c. 50 µm across, the wall pseudoparenchymatous, violet-brown to grey-green in upper part, colourless in lower part. Conidia bacilliform, 7-9 x 0.5-1 µm. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: those of the host. Chemistry: unknown.
Note: a lichenicolous fungus developing on the thalli of saxicolous species of the Lecanora subfusca-group, known from Spain, France, East Africa (Ethiopia) and Brazil. To be looked for in Italy.
