Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic to hemiendosubstratic, whitish, pale violet-grey or yellowish, minutely granulose. Perithecia black, 0.5-0.6 mm across, largely immersed in the thallus, projecting only with the slightly flattened apical part, often separated from the thallus by a thin crack. Involucrellum absent; exciple brownish in outer part, colourless in inner part, c. 20 μm thick; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids measuring c. 45 x 2 μm, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, ellipsoid to clavate, I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of a delicate rostrum, 90-95 x 25-28 μm. Ascospores (0-)1-septate, hyaline but often turning pale brown when overmature, broadly ellipsoid, 32-36 x 16-17 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: unknown, but probably without lichen substances.Note: a very poorly known calcicolous species, only repored from the Alps of Slovenia, in the montane belt. To be looked for in the Italian Alps.
