Verrucaria adelminienii Zschacke

Rabenh. Krypt.-Fl., 2nd ed., 9, 1.1: 148, 1933.
Synonyms:
Distribution: N - Lig (GDOR, see note).
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, continuous or irregularly rimose with thin cracks, white or greenish white, dull, subfarinose, without a distinct prothallus. Upper cortex absent; algal layer 50-100 µm thick, the mycobiont portion subparaplectenchymatous, inspersed with substrate particles; medulla white, obscured by substrate grains and crystals, grading into the weathered rock surface. Perithecia black, semi-immersed, hemispherically projecting, 0.2-0.26 mm across. Involucrellum completely enveloping the exciple, 30-50 µm thick, brown-black, somewhat paler and more or less patchily pigmented at base; exciple subglobose, pale brown to blackish; hamathecium of 25-30 µm long periphysoids, interascal filaments absent. Asci 8-spored, clavate, fissitunicate, the wall not amyloid, not or only slightly thickened above, Verrucaria-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, 18-23 x 8-10 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid, the cells 7-12 µm wide. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: according to Roux & Coll. (2025), this mainly calcicolous, pioneer species, is not uncommon in France. However, according to Pykälä (2016) and Pykälä & al. (2020), the type is in such a poor condition to be not identifiable, and the species is better treated as one with an unresolved status. In GDOR there are two samples collected by Sbarbaro near Spotorno, and identified by Servít,
