Description: Thallus crustose-subsquamulose, episubstratic, forming irregular patches 0.5-6(-12) mm in diam., orange-yellow, epruinose. Areoles/squamules lobulate, often reduced to a thalline rim around the apothecia, mostly flat, 0.l-0.9 mm in diam., 90-230 μm thick. Upper cortex 10-55 μm thick, with a yellowish-orange outer layer and a colourless inner layer, scleroplectenchymatous with irregularly arranged hyphae, lacking crystals; algal layer continuous or clustered; medulla white, poorly developed, very loose. Apothecia zeorine, 0.2-2.4 mm across, rounded or slightly deformed by mutual compression, sessile, with a flat, yellow to bright orange, epruinose, smooth disc and a paler, persistent proper margin and a smooth, thalline margin which is sometimes hidden at the base of apothecia. Thalline exciple 50-180(-200) μm wide; proper exciple 60-150 μm wide, formed by radially arranged hyphae, sclero-prosoplectenchymatous; epithecium brownish-orange, K+ purple-red; hymenium colourless, 60- 85 μm high; paraphyses sparingly branched in upper part, (1.5-)2-3(-4) μm wide at base, the apical cells swollen, up to 5.5 μm wide; hypothecium colourless, sclero-prosoplectenchymatous, underlain by a continuous algal layer. Asci 8-spored, clavate, functionally unitunicate, apically thickened with a broad internal beak, the inner part of apex and external cap I+ blue, Teloschistes-type. Ascospores 2-celled, polarilocular, hyaline, narrowly ellipsoid to subcylindrical, (13.8-)15-18(-20) x (4-)5-7.5 μm, the equatorial thickening (“septum”) very short, (0.5-)0.8-1.2(-1.5) μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus and apothecia K+ purple-red, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: thallus and apothecia with parietin, fallacinal, emodin, and teloschistin.
