Polyblastia abscondita (Nyl.) Arnold

Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic or very thinly episubstratic, continuous, pale brown. Perithecia black, globose, 0.2-0.3 mm across, completely immersed and leaving pits in the rock. Involucrellum absent; exciple dark throughout; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel hemiamyloid, I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci (6-)8-spored, clavate, K/I–, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of an endotunica to form a delicate rostrum. Ascospores submuriform to muriform, with 4-8 transverse septa and up to 4 longitudinal septa, hyaline (sometimes yellowish brown when old), ellipsoid, 30-45 x (16-)18-22 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: on calcareous rocks in rather sheltered situations near and above treeline. According to Savić & al. (2008), the species belongs to the Thelidium-clade, not to Polyblastia s.str.
