Distribution: S - Camp (Puntillo & al. 2000, Puntillo 2000, Nimis & Tretiach 2004, Ferraro & al. 2001, Puntillo & Puntillo 2011).
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, forming 0.3-1.5 mm wide, angular to rounded, often sublobulate patches, areolate-bullate, the areoles encrusted with a continuous layer of crystals, silvery to whitish grey, sometimes patchily greenish at margins. Hyphophores submarginal to marginal, their scales small, emerging from a slightly inflated crystalline bulge, obliquely orientated, triangular to irregularly laciniate, 0.07-0.1 mm long and 0.1-0.2 mm broad, bluish grey when young, turning whitish and translucent when old. Apothecia very rare and usually immature or poorly developed, 1-3(-4) per thallus patch, 0.1-0.15 mm across, with a pale orange, pinkish or dark grey disc, and a slightly prominent, whitish margin. Ascospores not known. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: only known from a single station in Italy, on leaves of Buxus, Laurus, Phillyrea, and on cladodes of Ruscus in a warm-humid, coastal gorge; earlier records of G. caucasicum from Italy refer to this species, which is included in the Italian red list of epiphytic lichens as “Critically Endangered” (Nascimbene & al. 2013c).
