Distribution: S - Camp (Puntillo & al. 2000, Puntillo 2000).
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, forming c. 1 mm wide, often confluent, whitish to grey, orbicular patches on the leaves of Buxus. Apothecia lecideine, usually 1(-2) per thalline patch, 0.3-0.35 mm across, with a pale brown to reddish brown, concave to flat disc, and a raised, usually darker proper margin. Proper exciple of radially arranged hyphae; epithecium colourless to brownish; hymenium colourless, I+ yellowish to reddish brown; paraphyses simple, free or partially bound with the asci in a gelatinous matrix, 1-1.5 µm thick, not thickened at apex; hypothecium colourless. Asci 8-spored, narrowly clavate, thin-walled, apically thickened, the wall I-. Ascospores (1-)3-6-septate, hyaline, narrowly ellipsoid, (11-)15-19(-24) x 5-7 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: a foliicolous species described from Africa, and also known from the Pyrenees; in the only Italian station, a warm-humid coastal valley, it was found on the leaves of Laurus. It is included in the Italian red list of epiphytic lichens as “Critically Endangered” (Nascimbene & al. 2013c).
