Description: Thallus crustose, very thinly episubstratic, continuous to slightly cracked, grey, grey-green or brown, often forming small flecks. Perithecia black, subglobose, 0.1-0.15(-0.2) mm across, hemispherically projecting. Involucrellum apical, covering the upper third or half of perithecium; exciple pale, except for the dark apex; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, narrowly ellipsoid to clavate, I fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of a delicate rostrum. Ascospores (0-)1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid to ovoid, (8-)10-17 x 3-6(-7) μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: on calcareous pebbles, or on rock surfaces close to the ground in upland areas.
