Distribution: N - TAA (Thüs & Nascimbene 2008, Nascimbene & al. 2022).
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, olive-brown to brown-grey, thin to thick (10-130 μm), continuous to finely rimose, paraplectenchymatous, more or less subgelatinous and with transparent margins when wet. Cortex absent, but upper part of thallus occasionally with a brownish pigment; basal layer absent; photobiont cells irregularly arranged. Perithecia black, prominent, (0.25-)0.36(-0.5) mm across. Involucrellum variable, even within a single thallus, from apical and adpressed to exciple to spreading and reaching the thallus base, moderately thick (<90 μm in upper third), 0.25-0.5 mm across; exciple 0.15-0.28 mm
in diam., the wall 40-60 µm thick; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; periphyses up to 30 μm long. Asci 8-spored, ellipsoid to clavate, I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of a delicate rostrum. Ascospores (0-)1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, 26-39 x 9-18 μm, without a perispore. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a rare species of siliceous substrata in clean creeks and rivers of high mountain ranges, with optimum above treeline.
