Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, pale grey, rimose-areolate. Medulla white, I-, without crystals. Apothecia at first immersed-erumpent and apparently lecanorine, being surrounded by an entire to cracked pseudothalline margin, becoming lecideine and sessile, 0.3-0.5 mm across, with a black, epruinose, at first concave, then flat to slightly convex disc, and a persistent proper margin. Proper exciple more or less of the aethalea-type; epithecium brown; hymenium colourless, not inspersed with oil droplets; paraphyses capitate, with a dark brown cap; hypothecium pale to dark brown. Asci 8-spored, clavate, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 1-septate brown, ellipsoid, often curved, (10.5-)11-13(-15) x 5.5-6.5(-7) μm, Buellia-type, constricted at septum, the wall clearly ornamented, the ontogeny of type A (apical wall thickenings produced after septum formation). Pycnidia black, subimmersed. Conidia filiform, curved, 13-17 x c. 1 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: a recently resurrected epiphytic species, also known from Portugal and the Canary Islands, probably more common in the warmest parts of Mediterranean Italy.
