Synonyms:
Distribution: N - TAA (TSB 37186).
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, rather thick, whitish to grey, more or less granular-verrucose, continuous to cracked, often with a black hypothallus visible amongst the granules. Apothecia biatorine, brownish black to black, semi-immersed in the thallus or subsessile, often confluent, 0.3-0.8 mm across, with an initially flat, then rapidly convex disc, and a thin, soon excluded proper margin. Epithecium dark greenish brown to almost black, K-; hymenium largely colourless (reddish brown in lowermost part); paraphyses coherent; hypothecium brown. Asci 8-spored. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid to oblong, 12-15(-18) x 5-7 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K+ yellow, C-, KC-, P+ yellowish. Chemistry: not known.
Note: on soil and terricolous bryophytes over siliceous substrata near and above treeline.
