Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, grey-green to brown, sometimes blackish due to cyanobacterial patinas, continuous, the surface strongly roughened, composed of 0.35-0.5 mm wide, lobed and branched goniocyst-like units. Perithecia black, 0.25-0.5 mm across, half immersed in thallus, forming 0.3-0.7 mm wide projections, often with a white-pruinose ostiole. Exciple black throughout; involucrellum very well-developed, reaching the base of the perithecium and progressively diverging from exciple; hymenial gel I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of iodine), K/I+ blue; hymenial algae 1.3-4.5 times as long as wide, 3-7.5 x 1.5-2.5 μm; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent. Asci 8-spored, clavate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, after dehiscence with a delicate extruded endotunica, I-, K/I-. Ascospores muriform, hyaline to finally pale yellowish or reddish brown, ellipsoid to narrowly ellipsoid, 30-45(-56) x 12-23(-29) μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid (Stichococcus), present in both thallus and hymenium. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: on basic siliceous to calcareous rocks with frequent seepage of water, often near creeks, in gorges etc., mostly in upland areas.
