Description: Thallus crustose-subplacodioid, episubstratic, closely adnate, pale yellowish green to greenish white, densely pruinose, usually forming irregular rosettes, the central parts irregularly areolate, the marginal areoles usually larger, c. 1 mm wide and long, flat to slightly convex. Pseudocortex poorly differentiated from the medulla, both inspersed with grey crystals. Apothecia abundant and crowded, lecanorine, 1-2 mm across, sessile, with a flat to slightly convex, brownish disc, and a 0.15-0.5 mm thick, persistent, hardly raised, concolorous to yellowish green thalline margin. Thalline exciple K+ yellow in upper part; proper exciple colourless, K-, epithecium colourless to pale brownish green, with granular crystals dissolving in K, N-; hymenium colourless to pale yellow, 60-70 µm high; paraphyses sparingly branched and anastomosing, 1.2-2 µm thick in lower part, slightly thickened at apex; hypothecium colourless or pale yellowish brown, K-. Asci 8-spored, clavate, Lecanora-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid to oblong, (8)10-14.5(-15.5) x (3-)3.5-4.5(-5) μm. Pycnidia immersed, with a pale yellow-brown ostiole, Conidia acicular to arcuate, up to 22 µm long. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K- or K+ indistinctly yellow, C-, KC+ yellow, P-; apothecial margin P+ orange-red. Chemistry: thallus with usnic acid and zeorin; apothecia with rangiformic acid.
Note: on horizontal to inclined faces of rocks which usually have a low content in calcium; known from a few localities in the Western Alps (France); to be looked for in the Italian Alps.
