Description: Thallus inapparent, the hyphae immersed into gelatinous algal films, probably not lichenized (perhaps a parasite of algal colonies). Perithecia globose, sometimes flattened at apex, 0.07-0.16 mm across, greenish black to bluish black, surrounded by a thin, colourless, gelatinous layer, with a circular, often darker, swollen ring around the ostiole. Exciple 2-layered, of periclinally oriented hyphae, 14-20 µm thick in upper part, 7-10 µm laterally and basally, pale brown to dark greenish brown at least in upper part; paraphyses thin, thread-like, somehow thicker in middle part, simple. Asci 16-32-spored, cylindrical-clavate, moderately thick-walled, non-fissitunicate, the entire ascus wall I+ and K/I+ blue, (40-)45-65(-75) x 9-12 µm. Ascospores 1-septate, not constricted at septum, hyaline, narrowly ellipsoid, thin-walled, (5-)6-9(-12) x 2-3(-3.5) µm, without appendages at the ends. Photobiont absent but the species is associated with Coccomyxa-like or other chlorococcoid algae. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Note: on decayed algal films developing on rock, detritus, raw humus and moribund bryophytes in a wide range of constantly moist, acidic habitats. To be looked for in Italy.
