Description: Thallus crustose, thin, subgelatinous when wet, dull-olive-green to olive-black. Perithecia black, semi-immersed in the thallus, without involucrellum. Exciple dark brown at least in upper part, the wall paraplectenchymatous; pseudoparaphyses branched and anastomosing; hymenial gel K/I-. Asci 8-spored, ovoid to subcylindrical, stalked, with two functional wall layers, K/I-, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, fissitunicate, with a distinct extruded rostrum at dehiscence. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, oblong-ovoid, 21-22 x c. 8 µm. Photobiont cyanobacterial, the cells blue-green. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.Note: a species based on a type from Finland, growing on moist sandy or clayey soil in inland habitats; a rare taxon with a few scattered records in Europe, including a single record from the Alps (Austria: Carinthia), along the edge of a forest road. To be looked for in the Italian Alps.
