Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, white to pale grey, pruinose, consisting of 0.2-0.5 mm wide granules/areoles scattered among the apothecia, in section paraplectenchymatous throughout, I-. Apothecia lecanorine, 0.3-0.8 mm across, sessile and constricted at base, with a flat to slightly convex, chestnut brown, bluish-pruinose disc and a smooth, pruinose, only slightly raised, persistent thalline margin. Thalline exciple uniformly paraplectenchymatous, with 5-10 μm wide isodiametrical cells, the outer part greenish blue, K+ purple, K-, densely covered in colourless crystals of calcium oxalates; proper exciple very thin, poorly developed; epithecium brown, 10-15 μm high, covered with crystals of oxalates; hymenium colourless, 70-80 μm high; paraphyses sparingly branched and anastomosing, 1.5-2 μm thick at mid-level, the apical cells swollen, 3-5 μm wide, the wall brown; hypothecium colourless, prosoplectenchymatous. Asci 8-spored, elongate-clavate, with a thin, outer amyloid layer and a thickened tholus penetrated by a pore, the sides of which stain I/KI+ deep blue, Porpidia-type, 60-70 x 12-15 μm. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid (10-)11-14 x (4.5-)5-6 μm, c. 2.2 times as long as wide, the young spores surrounded by a thin gelatinous sheath. Pycnidia not known. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.

Note: on surfaces of calcareous rocks wetted by rain in the Mediterranean belt. This species, which can be easily confused with Polyozosia dispersa or related taxa, is hitherto known only from a few localities in Spain. To be looked for in Mediterranean Italy.
