Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, grey-white to pinkish grey, continuous to finely rimose-areolate, the areoles angular, slightly concave to flat, often delimited by a whitish prothallus. Apothecia circular in outline, semi-immersed in the thallus, 0.3-0.5 mm across, with a concave to flat, blue-black disc, and a more or less prominent, black margin. Epithecium blue-green, N+ purple-red, K+ intensifying green; hymenium colourless, 85-115 µm high; paraphyses mostly simple, submoniliform in upper part, the apical cells slightly swollen; hypothecium colourless. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, the outer wall K/I+ blue, but the inner walls and apical dome K/I-. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid, (6-)9-12(-14) x 5-8(-8.5) µm. Pycnidia usually numerous, black, the wall green, N+ red. Conidia bacilliform. Photobiont trentepohlioid, the cells 10-18 µm wide. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
