Synonyms: Lecidea arnoldiana Dalla Torre & Sarnth.; Lecidea gneissacea Zahlbr.; Lecidea jemtlandensis H. Magn.; Lecidea lapicida var. swartzioidea (Nyl.) Nyl.; Lecidea lithophiloides Müll. Arg. non Nyl.; Lecidea metamorpha Anzi; Lecidea swartzioidea var. lithophiloides (Müll. Arg.) Clauzade & Cl. Roux; Lecidea vogesiaca Schaer.
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, rather thin, rimose-areolate, grey-white, the areoles angular, mostly flattened. Cortex without a distinct epinecral layer; medulla white, I+ blue-violet. Apothecia lecideine, 0.5-1.5 mm across, black but sometimes pruinose, at first semi-immersed, then adnate, with a flat to slightly convex disc, and a raised, usually persistent proper margin. Proper exciple black-brown in outer part, colourless within; epithecium greenish brown, N+ purple; hymenium colourless, 50-75 µm high, I+ blue; paraphyses not very coherent; hypothecium dark reddish brown to blackish brown. Ąsci 8-spored, clavate, Lecidea-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, ellipsoid 12-14 x 4-6 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus and especially medulla K+ yellow turning blood-red (needle-like crystals), C-, KC-, P+ bright yellow-orange. Chemistry: thallus with the norstictic acid syndrome.
