Synonyms: Caloplaca xantholyta (Nyl.) Jatta; Lepraria xantholyta (Nyl.) Lettau; Placodium xantholytum (Nyl.) Nyl.
Description: Thallus leprose, episubstratic, up to 2 mm thick, entirely consisting of bright yellow, 0.15-0.2 mm thick soredia-like granules, usually well delimited and often forming orbicular to irregular, up to several cm wide patches, sometimes with obscure marginal lobes; the central parts of thallus sometimes decaying, leaving only an outer ring. Medulla white, sometimes visible in places, of thick hyphae which are often covered in small crystals. Apothecia and pycnidia always absent. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K+ purple-red, C-, KC-, P-, UV+ orange.
