Arnold; Ochrolechia tatrica Gyeln.; Pertusaria degelii Erichsen; Pertusaria tumidula var. perpityrea Erichsen
Description: Thallus crustose, superficial, thin to usually thick, smooth to bullate-tuberculate, white-grey to dark grey, delimited by a shiny, thick, pinkish grey prothallus, the tubercles usually not separated from one another, large, convex or flattened, in some specimens constricted at base. Soralia usually well delimited, 1.5-3 mm diam., round to irregular, rarely confluent and forming a continuous sorediate crust, concolorous with thallus or beige grey to yellowish- or pinkish-grey, bearing coarse granular, sometimes almost isidioid soredia. Cortex often covered with a distinct C– (necrotic) layer, white-grey to brown, often with a yellow tinge. Apothecia rare, lecanorine, 2-4 mm across, with a flesh-coloured, orange-brown, pale or dark brown, epruinose, at first concave then flat disc surrounded by a salmon-pink discoid tissue, and by a usually sorediate thalline margin. Thalline exciple corticate, with a well-developed medulla; proper exciple prominent, visible as a ring around thalline margin; hymenium colourless, up to c. 300 µm high; paraphyses thin, slender, densely branched and anastomosing; hypothecium colourless to yellowish. Asci 4-6(-8)-spored with thick, amyloid walls, without recognizable apical structures, Pertusaria-like. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, thin walled, broadly ellipsoid to subglobose, (12-)25-50 x (12-)17-31 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: cortex and epithecium K-, C+ pink, KC+ orange-pink, P-, UV-. Chemistry: gyrophoric acid (major), lecanoric acid (minor or trace), plus 3 fatty acids ('Androgyna B unknowns' sensu Tønsberg 1992).
Growth form: Crustose
Photobiont: green algae other than Trentepohlia
Reproductive strategy: mainly asexual, by soredia, or soredia-like structures (e.g. blastidia)
