Synonyms: Buellia farinosa Malme; Lecanora parella var. turneri (Sm.) Arnold; Lecanora turneri (Sm.) Ach.; Ochrolechia alboflavescens var. turneri (Sm.) Verseghy; Ochrolechia pallescens var. turneri (Sm.) Körb.; Ochrolechia parella var. turneri (Sm.) Arnold; Pertusaria henrici Harm. ex Erichsen; Pertusaria leprarioides auct. p.max.p. non Erichsen
Description: Thallus crustose, thin to thick, usually continuous to cracked, rarely tuberculate, whitish-grey or grey, sometimes delimited by a thick, zoned, white to brownish-pink prothallus. Soralia small, <0.5 mm diam., often excavate and in lines, more rarely flat to convex, orbicular to irregular, usually discrete, sometimes confluent in central parts of thallus. Soralia granular, 40-60(-75) µm wide, white-grey to grey, sometimes with a brownish tinge, usually paler than thallus. Apothecia rare, lecanorine, 0.5-2 mm across, with a flesh-coloured, densely white-pruinose, at first concave then flat disc surrounded by a salmon-pink, pruinose discoid tissue and by a thick, wrinkled, usually sorediate thalline margin. Thalline exciple corticate in non-sorediate parts, the cortex up to 100 µm thick at base; proper exciple usually distinct in non-sorediate parts; epithecium brownish, C+ red; hymenium colourless, 175–220 µm high; paraphyses thin, densely branched and anastomosing; hypothecium pale yellow. Asci 4-6-spored with thick, amyloid walls, without recognizable apical structures, Pertusaria-like. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, thin-walled, several curved or constricted in the middle or in 1/3 of the length, (35-)40-50(-62) x (11-)15-22(-25) µm. Spot tests: thalline cortex C– or C+ very faintly yellow; cortex of the apothecial margin C+ yellow; medulla C-, KC-; soralia K-, C+ yellow, KC- or KC+ faintly pink, P-, UV+ glaucous with an orange tinge; apothecial disc C+ red. Chemistry: variolaric acid and sometimes alectoronic acid concentrated in the soredia and in the cortex of apothecial margin; 'microstictoides unknowns' 1–2; epithecium with gyrophoric (major) and lecanoric acid (minor).
Growth form: Crustose
Substrata: bark
Photobiont: green algae other than Trentepohlia
Reproductive strategy: mainly asexual, by soredia, or soredia-like structures (e.g. blastidia)
