Synonyms:
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic to partially immersed in the bark, effuse, smooth to weakly cracked, dull or dark red-brown, turning grey in the herbarium, sorediate. Soralia bright orange when fresh, turning pale cream-grey in the herbarium, very numerous, punctiform to elliptical, eroded to excavate, 0.1-0.4 mm in diam., mostly remaining discrete, sometimes becoming confluent; soredia 15-45 x 13-25 μm. Perithecia very rare, brown, 0.2-0.3 mm across, immersed in lower part. Involucrellum brown and K- in outer part, orange and K+ orange-red in inner part; exciple orange, K+ dark orange; paraphyses thread-like, persistent. Asci 8-spored, clavate-cylindrical, thin-walled, functionally unitunicate, I-, K/I-, the apex truncate and containing a refractive ring which stains with Congo Red. Ascospores 3(-5)-septate, hyaline, 16-22.5 x 3-5.5 μm. Photobiont trentepohlioid. Spot tests: thallus and soralia K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
