provisionally placed here, ICN Art. 36.1b. . Basionym: Pachyospora bunodea A. Massal. - Symmicta Lich.: 26, 1855.
Synonyms: Aspicilia bunodea (A. Massal.) Maheu & A. Gillet; Lecanora bunodea (A. Massal.) Jatta
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, areolate-verrucose, brownish grey, often with a faintly bluish hue, dull, the areoles dispersed, usually regularly round, convex, up to 2.5 mm in diam. Apothecia lecanorine-aspicilioid, 0.3-0.7 mm across, immersed in the areoles and usually occupying most of their surface, round, with a black, but often white-pruinose, concave to flat disc, and a rather thick, raised, white thalline margin. Proper exciple very thin; epithecium olive green to olive-brown, N+ green, K+ brown; hymenium colourless, 100-170 µm high, I+ blue or sometimes partly turning yellow-green; paraphyses submoniliform in upper part; hypothecium colourless. Asci (2-)4(-6)-spored, clavate, the thin outer coat K/I+ blue, the wall and apical dome K/I-. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, broadly ellipsoid to subglobose, poorly developed. Pycnidia black, immersed. Conidia bacilliform, straight, c. 7 x 0.5 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: cortex and medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: usually with aspicilin, rarely lacking secondary metabolites.
