J. Hattori Bot. Lab., 55: 442, 1984.
Synonyms:
Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic, poorly evident. Apothecia lecanorine, up to 0.5 mm across, adpressed to slightly immersed, with a more or less flat, black disc, an entire, smooth thalline margin, and a proper margin forming a parathecial ring; old apothecia may appear as lecideine, due to darkening of the outer cells of the thalline margin. Proper exciple thin laterally, expanding considerably in upper part; epithecium dark brown, K-; hymenium colourless, inspersed with oil droplets especially in the basal and peripheral parts, 100-120 µm high; paraphyses 1.5-2 µm thick at mid-level, the apical cells swollen, 5-7 µm wide, with a brown cap, the pigment extending to the upper septa; hypothecium colourless, up to 150 µm high. Asci 8-spored, clavate, the K/I+ blue tholus penetrated by a faintly amyloid apical cushion with parallel or diverging flanks, the wall K/I-, surrounded by a K/I+ blue outer layer, Lecanora-type. Ascospores 1-septate, brown, ellipsoid, 12-17 x 8-11.5 µm, thin-walled throughout, the old ones sometimes slightly constricted at septum, intermediate between the Physconia- and the Buellia-types. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
