Description: Thallus crustose, thin to rather thick, continuous to more or less warted or almost granular, grey, grey-green or brownish green. Apothecia biatorine, 0.3-0.8 mm across, very soon strongly convex and immarginate, pale brown to almost black; proper margin at first distinct, level with disc, but soon excluded and reflexed. Proper exciple olive brown in section, without crystals, of radiating, branched and anastomosing hyphae; epithecium blue-green (K-, N+ purple), or olive-brown (K-, N-), or a mixture of both, without crystals; hymenium colourless, 40-65 µm high, I+ blue; paraphyses strongly branched and anastomosing up to the upper part, immersed in a gelatinous matrix and resembling excipular hyphae, 1.5-2.0 µm thick, the apical cells mostly slightly clavate and to 3 µm wide; hypothecium colourless. Asci 8-spored, , broadly clavate, surrounded by a gelatinous, amyloid sheet, with a well-developed, amyloid tholus containing a widely cylindrical axial body and a poorly developed, bluntly conical ocular chamber, more or less Lecanora-type. Ascospores 3-7-septate, hyaline, more or less acicular, curved and spirally twisted in the asci, (17-)10-35(-40) x (2-)2.5-3.5 µm. Pycnidia half-immersed, black. Conidia simple, hyaline, bacilliform, 6-9 x c. 1 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid, the cells 10-17(-20) µm wide. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
