Synonyms: Buellia triphragmia var. lividescens Bagl. & Carestia; Buellia triphragmia var. rugulosa Bagl. & Carestia; Diplotomma triphragmioides (Anzi) Szatala
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, continuous to areolate-verrucose, pale sulphur yellow to greenish yellow, without a distinct prothallus, usually forming small patches. Medulla white, lacking calcium oxalates, I-. Apothecia lecideine, black, abundant, sessile, 0.2-0.9 mm across, with an often thinly bluish- to grey-pruinose, flat to convex disc, and an initially prominent, finally excluded proper margin. Proper exciple 50-60 µm thick, dark brown in outer part, paler within; epithecium brown, N-; hymenium colourless, not inspersed with oil droplets, 60-70 µm high; paraphyses with swollen, to 7 µm wide, dark-capped apical cells; hypothecium brown, to 150 µm high, N-. Asci 8-spored, clavate to cylindrical-clavate, the apical dome K/I+ dark blue with a pale, conical-pointed apical cushion (axial mass), the wall I-, but the thin outer gel I+ blue, Bacidia-type. Ascospores 3-septate, brown, elongate-ellipsoid, sometimes curved, 19-28 x 7-10.5 µm, the walls and septa lacking uneven thickenings, the wall rugulate. Pycnidia rare, black, largely immersed. Conidia bacilliform, 5-7 x 1 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: thallus K-, C+ orange, KC+ orange, P-, UV+ orange; medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: arthothelin and some minor xanthones.
