Meddel. Soc. Fauna Flora Fenn., 16: 104, 1890 (1889). Basionym: Cytospora resinae Ehrenb. - Sylv. Mycol. Berol.: 28, 1818, nom. cons. prop.
Synonyms: Biatorella resinae (Fr.) Th. Fr.; Nectriella resinae (Fr.) Sacc.; Sarea resinae (Fr.) Kuntze; Sphaeria resinae Fr.; Tromera myriospora (Hepp) Anzi; Tromera resinae (Fr.) Körb.; Tromera xanthostigma A. Massal. ex Arnold
Description: Thallus not evident, not lichenized. Apothecia biatorine, rounded, 0.5-1.5(-2) mm across, sessile or shortly stipitate, pale orange to red-brown, with a concave to flat disc and an initially raised, but soon excluded proper margin. Exciple colourless, to 100 μm thick, of radially arranged hyphae, the outer part with orange-red granules; epithecium pale reddish orange, with orange granules; hymenium colourless or pale orange, 85-100 μm high, I+ pale blue; pseudoparaphyses thread-like, coherent, more or less simple, 1-1.5(-2) μm thick; hypothecium colourless, gelatinous, almost pseudoparenchymatous, 80–110 μm high. Asci >100-spored, clavate, with a thick inner wall reacting I+ blue, an apical cap with a broad pore and an outer gelatinous layer reacting I+ blue, and a thin non-staining layer separating the outer and inner layers. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, globose, 2-3.5 μm in diam. Pycnidia abundant in sterile forms, subglobose, 0.1-0.5 mm in diam., pale orange or pink, with a distinct ostiole. Conidia forming a compact gelatinous mass, subglobose or angular, hyaline, thick-walled, 2-3 μm wide. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
