Nyl. ex Körb., Syst. Lich. Germ.: 306, 1855.
Synonyms: Calicium eusporum Nyl.; Stenocybe euspora (Nyl.) Anzi
Description: Thallus not evident, not lichenized. Apothecia long-stalked, pin-like, 0.75-1.5(-2) mm high, dark brown to black, the stalk slender, 0.05-0.1 mm thick, simple or branched in upper part, consisting of dark brown, periclinally arranged hyphae. Capitulum 0.2-0.6 mm across, obovoid or subspherical, shining black, with a flat disc and an inrolled margin. Exciple well-developed, narrowly obconical, vertically pleated, consisting of dark brown, periclinally arranged hyphae; epithecium of a thin layer of dark hyphae; mazaedium absent. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, formed singly from ascogenous hyphae with croziers, uniformly thickened at apex, with a single functional wall layer, persisting until the spores are ejected, with uniseriately arranged spores. Ascospores 1-3 septate, narrowly ellipsoid to fusiform, dark brown to brown-black, the terminal cells paler, with pointed ends, 18-36 x 7-11 µm, the wall conspicuously papillate to reticulate. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
