Synonyms: Athrismidium gelatinosum (Chevall.) Trevis.; Melanotheca gelatinosa (Chevall.) Zahlbr.; Melanotheca leightonii (A. Massal.) Kremp.; Tomasellia leightonii A. Massal.
Description: Thallus crustose, not lichenized, mostly endosubstratic and poorly evident, brownish or reddish brown, sometimes delimited by a dark line. Ascocarps perithecioid, aggregated in circular to ellipsoid pseudostromata with an overlying black wall which is not continuous below the hamathecium.
