Description: Thallus crustose, not lichenized, mostly endosubstratic and poorly evident, brownish or reddish brown, sometimes delimited by a dark line. Ascocarps perithecioid, aggregated into circular to ellipsoid, 0.3-1 mm wide pseudostromata with an overlying black wall which is not continuous below the hamathecium, 10-50 per pseudostroma. Hamathecium of branched, not anastomosing, non-amyloid, 1.5-2.5(-3) thick µm pseudoparaphyses. Asci 8-spored, obclavate, tapering to apex, fissitunicate, with two functional wall layers, K/I-. Ascospores (1-)3-septate with eusepta, hyaline or finally pale brown, clavate to ellipsoid, 18-27 x 5-7(-10) µm, the wall not ornamented, the perispore indistinct. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
