Synonyms:
Description: Thallus crustose, inconspicuous, dark brown to black, non-lichenized. Perithecia black, somehow shiny, more or less circular in outline, scattered or clustered, 0.2-0.25 mm across. Involucrellum dimidiate, brown both in water and in K, of compacted hyphae and bark cells; exciple thin, usually colourless, surrounding the centrum; pseudoparaphyses rather short-celled and richly branched and anastomosing; downwardly projecting periphysoids present near the ostiole. Asci 8-spored, obpyriform, fissitunicate, with two functional wall layers, with a distinctive apical region lacking a nasse, 36-48 x 18-21 μm. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline (sometimes yellowish brown and 3-septate when overmature), slightly constricted at septum, the cells often biguttulate, but without median constrictions, (14-)18-22(-23) x (3-)5-6 μm, with a usually distinct c. 1 μm thick (in K) perispore. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
