Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic, brownish or not evident, doubtfully lichenized. Perithecia black, somehow glossy, 0.1-0.25 mm across, circular in outline, with a slightly flattened apical part. Involucrellum dimidiate, brown, K-, of a clypeate tissue composed of bark material intermixed with dark brown, thin-walled and smooth hyphae, forming in places a pseudoparenchymatous tissue of isodiametric, c. 3.5 µm wide cells with dark brown walls; exciple colourless throughout; paraphysoids soon gelatinized, c. 2.5 µm thick, poorly evident in mature perithecia. Asci 8-spored, obpyriform, thick-walled and fissitunicate, with a small, pointed internal apical beak, 60-70 x 23-27 µm. Ascospores 1-septate, not or only slightly constricted at septum, the two cells often of slightly different sizethe lower one often slightly constricted without becoming septate, hyaline, narrowly ovoid to almost bacilliform, (15-)18-22(-23) x 2.5-4(-6) μm, with a narrow gelatinous sheath. Pycnidia rare, black. Conidia 1-celled, narrowly ellipsoid or bacilliform, 3-4 x c. 1 μm. Photobiont absent or thallus loosely associated with trentepohlioid algae. Spot tests: thallus K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
