in Döbbeler, Arctic Alpine Mycology, 2: 92, 1987
Synonyms:
Description: Thallus inapparent, not lichenized, the up to 3 μm thick hyphae sometimes forming a dense network near the perithecia, running both superficially and within single cells of Polytrichastrum sexangulare-leaflets, when inside the cells much thinner. Perithecia grey-black to black and glossy when dry (paler in lower part), covered with a hyaline layer of cells, pyriform to rarely subglobose, 0.2-0.3 mm across, coarsely warted. Exciple dull green, 20-40 µm thick laterally, 50-70 µm thick in upper part, of strongly anastomosing, conglutinated, thick-walled hyphae with up to 1 μm thick lumina; paraphysoids persistent, thread-like, c. 1.5 μm thick, branched and anastomosing in lower part; periphysoids absent; hymenial gel I+ reddish or I+ blue at low concentrations, K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, subcylindrical, short-stalked, thick-walled (c. 2 μm), fissitunicate, the outer gelatinous wall layer I+ blue, with a very faintly I+ blue apical plug. Ascospores 3-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid to long-ellipsoid, 10-15 x 3.5-5.5 μm. Photobiont absent. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substancs.
