Lich. Bassan.: 239, 1858
Synonyms: Spermatodium parolinii (Beltr.) Trevis.
Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, dark grey, not lichenized. Perithecia black, 0.15-0.2 mm across, subglobose, more or less circular in outline, numerous and scattered, superficial, many with a depressed ostiole. Involucrellum reddish brown, clypeate, with amorphous pigment localized in the cell walls, of textura intricata, not continuous below the hamathecium, the pigment remaining brown in K; exciple colourless, scarcely discernible; pseudoparaphyses moniliform, dissolving early and leaving only fragments embedded in gel; periphysoids not present. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical-clavate, bitunicate, with a distinct apical region lacking a nasse, the dehiscence typically fissitunicate, 60-70 x 24-27 µm. Ascospores 5-7-septate, slightly constricted at septa, hyaline, clavate with rounded apices, 21-22 x 4-5 µm, irregularly arranged in the asci, the perispore indistinct. Photobiont absent.
