Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, continuous to fissured, whitish, pale grey or pale greenish grey, conspicuously zoned at margins, often delimited by a white prothallus, isidiate-sorediate, not tasting bitter. Central parts of thallus with diffuse, 0.1-0.2 mm wide, pseudocoralloid, isidia-like, whitish granules giving rise to granular soredia which usually become confluent in central parts. Apothecia not found in Italian material. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: cortex and medulla K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: allopertusaric (major) and dihydropertusaric (minor) acids.
