Synonyms: Blasteniospora concolor (Dicks.) Trevis.; Caloplaca concolor (Dicks.) Jatta; Candelaria concolor var. granulosa (Harm.) Mereschk.; Candelaria vulgaris A. Massal.; Lecanora laciniosa Nyl.; Physcia concolor (Dicks.) Bagl. & Carestia
Description: Thallus minutely foliose, heteromerous, dorsiventral, bright lemon yellow to yellow-green in shade, forming up to 1 cm wide rosettes which often coalesce into extensive colonies. Lobes narrow, 0.1-0.4(-0.7) mm wide, adnate or ascending, often densely imbricate, with granular blastidia which are most abundant on the more or less fan-shaped lobe-ends. Lower surface white to pinkish, somewhat shiny; with simple, white rhizines. Upper and lower cortex c. 10-30 µm thick, paraplectenchymatous; medulla white, very thin. Apothecia rare, sessile, to c. 1 mm across, with a yellow, flat to finally convex disc and a smooth but often sorediate or lobulate thalline margin. Epithecium yellow-brown, granular; hymenium colourless, 55-95 µm high, I+ blue; paraphyses simple, cylindrical to submoniliform, with up to 5 µm wide tips; hypothecium colourless, c. 50 µm thick. Asci >30-spored, clavate, with an apical dome which is I+ blue only in the internal, lower part, interrupted in the centre by an I+ paler blue strip, Candelaria-type. Ascospores 1-celled or thinly 1-septate, uni- or biguttulate, hyaline, 6-14 x 4-6 µm. Pycnidia appearing as raised yellow warts on the thallus surface, the wall colourless. Conidia ellipsoid, 2-3 x 1-1.5 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K- or K+ faintly pink, C-, KC-, P-, UV- or UV+ dull orange; apothecial disc sometimes K+ faintly pink. Chemistry: calycin (major) and pulvinic dilactone (minor).
