Syll. Lich. Ital.: 568, 1900. Basionym: Sporodictyon clandestinum Arnold - Verh. zool.-bot. Ges. Wien, 21: 1135, 1871.
Synonyms:
Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic, continuous, white to pale brown. Perithecia black, globose, (0.3-)0.4-0.7 mm across, completely immersed and leaving pits in the rock. Involucrellum absent; exciple dark throughout, thicker in the region around the ostiole; hamathecium of periphyses and periphysoids, interascal filaments absent; hymenial gel hemiamyloid, I+ red (I+ blue at very low concentrations of I), K/I+ blue. Asci 8-spored, clavate, K/I–, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, dehiscent by extrusion of an endotunica to form a delicate rostrum. Ascospores strongly muriform, hyaline, ellipsoid, 40-67 x 24-30 μm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
