Description: Thallus crustose, endosubstratic, poorly visible or reduced to a few whitish granules, without a distinct prothallus. Apothecia 0.1-0.3 mm across, sessile, scattered, with a flat to slightly concave, yellow-orange disc covered in an abundant yellow pruina, and a concolorous, thin, smooth, persistent proper margin. Thalline margin poorly developed, sometimes visible only on the lower part of apothecia, finely granulose. Proper exciple prosoplectenchymatous, colourless within; epithecium brownish yellow, c. 10 µm thick, K+ red; hymenium colourless, 70-80 µm high; paraphyses simple or sparingly branched in upper part, 1.2-2 µm thick at base, the apical cells swollen, up to 5 µm wide; hypothecium colourless. Asci 8-spored, clavate, functionally unitunicate, apically thickened with a broad internal beak, the inner part of apex and external cap I+ blue, Teloschistes-type. Ascospores 2-celled, polarilocular, hyaline, ellipsoid, 11-14(-16) x 6-8.5(-9.5) µm, the equatorial thickening (“septum”) (1-)2-3(-3.5) µm (c. 1/8 of spore length). Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: apothecia K+ red. Chemistry: apothecia with parietin (major), fallacinal, emodin, teloschistin and parietinic acid (minor), corresponding with chemosyndrome A of Søchting (1997).
