Synonyms: Involucrothele obscura (Garov.) Servít
Description: Thallus crustose, episubstratic, rather thick, black, with a black medullary layer of vertically arranged hyphae. Perithecia black, 0.2-0.3 mm across, usually immersed in hemispherical thalline warts and hence covered with a thalline layer, witha depressed ostiolar region, apple-shaped in section. Involucrellum well-developed: exciple brown only near the ostiole, otherwise colourless; hymenium colourless, the hymenial gel I-. Asci 8-spored, narrowly ellipsoid to clavate, I-, fissitunicate, the wall thickened above, ocular chamber usually present; dehiscence by extrusion of a delicate endotunica as a long rostrum. Ascospores (0-)1-septate, hyaline, ellipsoid, 21-30 x 9-13 µm. Photobiont chlorococcoid. Spot tests: K-, C-, KC-, P-, UV-. Chemistry: not known, but probably without lichen substances
