Description: Thallus crustose, thinly episubstratic, continuous or in the form of scattered flecks, yellow-brown to dull brown, subgelatinous when wet, without dark ridges. Perithecia scattered, black, 0.1-0.3(-0.4) mm in diam., clearly projecting, often slightly flattened at the top. Involucrellum well-evident, distinctly spreading laterally; exciple dark in upper part, pale in lower half, more or less cellular; hamathecium of branched and anastomosing pseudoparaphyses, the hymenial gel I-. Asci 8-spored, ovoid to subcylindrical, usually stalked, with two functional wall layers, K/I-, the wall thickened above, with an ocular chamber, fissitunicate, with a distinct extruded rostrum at dehiscence. Ascospores 1-septate, hyaline, oblong, one cell usually longer than the other, 13-22 x 5-9 µm. Pycnidia common, black, distinctly flattened, the conidiogenous cells cylindrical, phialidic. Conidia bacilliform to ellipsoid, 2.5-3.5 x 0.5-1 µm. Photobiont cyanobacterial, (Hyella), the cells usually abundant, orange, up to 12 µm wide. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
