Henssen ex P.M. Jørg., M. Schultz & Guttová, Herzogia, 26: 2, 2013.
Synonyms:
Description: Thallus squamulose, homoiomerous, slightly gelatinous when wet, in section with a loosely reticulate network of thin hyphae enclosing groups of cyanobacterial cells. Squamules shield-like, attached by a central point, up to 3(-4) mm wide, dispersed to usually crowded and forming effuse, black-brown crusts, with an often lobulate to incised margin, epruinose, often shiny, covered in granular isidia-like outgrowths which aggregate forming a dense bushy structure around the apothecia. Apothecia pycnoascocarps, at first immersed and perithecioid, but soon expanded and lecanorine, 0.5-0.8(-1) mm across, with a dark reddish brown disc and a thick thalline margin. Proper exciple thin, cupulate; epithecium yellowish brown; hymenium and hypothecium colourless, the hymenial gelatine I+ blue. Asci 4(-8)-spored, broadly clavate, thin-walled, with a distinct amyloid outer cap, but no apical dome, Peccania-type. Ascospores 1-celled, hyaline, broadly ellipsoid to subglobose, 8-13(-17) x (4-)6-8(-11) µm, the wall 1-2 µm thick. Pycnidia laminal, immersed. Conidia narrowly ellipsoid to bacilliform, c. 3 x 1 µm. Photobiont cyanobacterial, chroococcoid, of a few 4-10 µm wide cells surrounded by a gelatinous sheath which is colourless in inner parts, yellowish brown near the thallus surface. Spot tests: all negative. Chemistry: without lichen substances.
Growth form: Crustose
Substrata: rocks
Photobiont: cyanobacteria, coccaceous (e.g. Gloeocapsa)
